Working With An Interior Designer

I often get asked similar types of questions from new clients and thought it would be helpful to share the questions and my answers with you.

Most of my clients have not previously worked with a designer, not to worry if you’re in the same situation, this will help give you the answers you're looking for.

01— What is the design process?

The design process comes down to three main steps:

ONE: THE MEETING

After I receive the completed questionnaire, I will gather a list of questions we need to discuss. We will meet in-person at your home so that I can see the space, take the necessary measurements, and walk-through the space with you.

After the in-house consultation I will then get back to you by email with the project breakdown, the design fee and timeframe for the design services.

TWO: THE CONCEPTS

Once a deposit has been paid I will get started creating preliminary layout plans. We will meet in person a few times to discuss the plans and we will be in contact by email/ phone calls throughout your project. It’s important that you are involved in the design process from the very beginning because it can eliminate a lot of questions for your contractor once the renovation work begins.

THREE: THE WORK

Once you’ve approved the final design, furnishings and materials are ordered, and all work is scheduled there will be a wait time. From now until the construction is complete and/or the furnishings are delivered, you will wait to see the final transformation.

02— Are you The Right Fit For My Project?

This is a necessary question. It’s important that we are both a good fit for each other.

During the phone call and initial consultation I will get to know more about your project goals and vision. You’ll want to have a firm grasp on your personal style, share inspiration photos and designs/concepts with me at this time because I want to make sure that I am the right designer for you and your project.

Also, I share information, expressing the design approach and style on my website, other blog posts and social media. I would like to invite you to explore these spaces to see if you resonate with my words and photos.

03— How Do I Get Started?

Book a call with me. I’ll be happy to answer specific questions and explain more about the process and the fees.

We will then schedule a time to meet in your home for the initial consultation. I will send you a questionnaire to fill out beforehand so that I can collect your contact info and more details about your style, ideas and goals for the project. The questionnaire is helpful for me because I can get a good understanding of your project before we meet.

I will come prepared with questions and information needed. I will also take the necessary measurements and photos of the space when we meet.

Preparing and planning a successful renovation starts with having a good understanding of the overall process, knowing what steps to take to get started and ensuring you’re working with a designer who’s aligned with your vision and goals.
